Product Overview

TheSonic India Dual-Array PAUT A27 Series CID Wedges are developed for phased array ultrasonic testing applications where the inspection contact surface is located on the inside diameter of a curved component and the inspection orientation follows the internal circumference. This wedge configuration is suitable for accessible internal weld inspection on pipes, vessels, shells, nozzles, headers, and cylindrical components.

The CID wedge is designed for circumferential inspection on concave internal surfaces. Its ID curvature matching helps the wedge sit properly on the inside surface, supporting stable coupling and reliable probe orientation during internal PAUT scanning. This helps maintain consistent ultrasonic transmission and repeatable inspection response.

Manufactured from high-quality Rexolite material, the A27 Series CID Wedge provides dependable ultrasonic performance and dimensional stability. The wedge is supported with high-quality, high-standard damping material designed with a zero-tolerance approach toward unwanted ultrasonic sound acceptance. This damping support helps absorb, control, and divert unwanted ultrasonic energy, reducing internal reflections, wedge noise, and signal disturbance during inspection.

Detailed Product Description

The Dual-Array PAUT A27 Series CID Wedge from TheSonic India is developed for circumferential inner-diameter PAUT weld inspection. It is selected when the probe and wedge must be positioned on the internal curved surface and the inspection requirement follows the inside circumference of the component.

Unlike AID wedges, which are intended for axial ID inspection, CID wedges are intended for circumferential ID inspection. The CID contact profile is designed to match the internal curved surface so the wedge can sit more securely during circumferential inspection. This helps improve coupling stability, reduce unstable probe movement, and support repeatable ultrasonic signal response.

The Rexolite wedge body supports effective ultrasonic energy transfer from the phased array probe into the inspected component. The high-standard damping support helps manage unwanted ultrasonic sound paths within the wedge and supports cleaner PAUT data acquisition.

CID Wedge Application

The CID Wedge configuration is recommended for inner-diameter curved surfaces where the inspection requirement is circumferential. It is commonly used when the wedge needs to sit on the inside surface of a round component and support inspection around the internal circumference.

CID is different from AID because CID supports circumferential ID inspection, while AID supports axial ID inspection.

Typical Applications

·       Dual-array PAUT weld inspection on circumferential ID curved surfaces

·       Internal circumferential inspection of pipes and vessels

·       Internal shell weld inspection where access permits

·       Pipe spool internal weld inspection

·       Nozzle and cylindrical component inspection

·       Internal weld inspection of pressure components

·       Refinery, petrochemical, and power plant inspection

·       Maintenance and shutdown inspection of accessible ID surfaces

·       Manual phased array ultrasonic testing from internal curved surfaces

·       Scanner-assisted PAUT inspection where suitable access is available

·       Industrial fabrication, in-service inspection, and quality control applications

Suitable Inspection Areas

The Dual-Array PAUT A27 Series CID Wedge is suitable for accessible internal curved surfaces of pipes, vessels, shells, nozzles, headers, and cylindrical components where circumferential ID curvature matching is required.

For flat surfaces, Flat Wedge is recommended. For OD inspection applications, AOD or COD may be selected. For axial ID inspection, AID Wedge may be required.
