TheSonic India PAUT A3 Series COD Wedges are designed for phased array applications where inspection is performed on the outside diameter of a round component and the scan orientation follows the circumference. This wedge type is suitable for circumferential weld inspection on pipes, pressure vessels, nozzles, shells, and cylindrical structures.
The COD contact face is shaped to follow the external curved surface and maintain better contact around the inspection area. This helps improve couplant behavior, probe control, scan repeatability, and ultrasonic signal consistency during circumferential movement.
The wedge is manufactured from high-quality Rexolite and supported with high-standard damping material to improve ultrasonic transmission and reduce internal sound disturbance during PAUT inspection.
Working Principle / Technology Overview
In COD inspection, the wedge sits on the OD surface while the scan path follows the circumference of the component. This is different from AOD, where the scanning direction is axial.
