The Sonic MicroCirc S1 PAUT Scanner – TS-MCS1-45
Low-Profile Single-Probe PAUT / UT Scanner for Small-Bore Pipe Weld Inspection
The The Sonic MicroCirc S1 PAUT Scanner – TS-MCS1-45 is a compact, low-profile single-probe scanner designed for small-bore pipe weld inspection, tube weld inspection, circumferential weld scanning, encoded PAUT inspection, and conventional UT encoded scanning applications.
The scanner is developed for inspection areas where pipe diameter is small, access is restricted, and standard weld scanners cannot be easily used. Its compact chain-link design allows the scanner to travel around small pipe and tube circumferences while maintaining stable probe and wedge positioning.
The TS-MCS1-45 is suitable for ferrous and non-ferrous pipe materials, including carbon steel, stainless steel, alloy steel, duplex stainless steel, and non-magnetic pipe applications.
Product Overview
The MicroCirc S1 PAUT Scanner is designed for single-probe encoded ultrasonic inspection of small-diameter pipes and tubes. The scanner guides the probe and wedge assembly around the pipe circumference and provides accurate scan-position feedback when supplied with an encoder.
Its low-profile construction makes it suitable for limited-access inspection areas such as pipe racks, tube banks, boiler tube arrangements, heat exchanger areas, tight plant locations, fabrication joints, and compact circumferential weld inspection applications.
The scanner can be configured for pipe and tube diameters from 21.4 mm to 114.3 mm, equivalent to 0.84 inch to 4.5 inch.

Working Principle
The TS-MCS1-45 MicroCirc S1 PAUT Scanner wraps around the pipe or tube using an adjustable link arrangement. During inspection, the scanner travels around the pipe circumference while holding the probe and wedge assembly in position.
When supplied with an encoder, the scanner converts circumferential movement into distance-based position signals. These signals are transmitted to the ultrasonic inspection system, allowing inspection data to be synchronized with the actual scanner position.
This supports:
Small-bore pipe weld inspection
Circumferential weld mapping
Accurate defect location
Defect length measurement
B-scan and C-scan generation
Position-based ultrasonic data acquisition
Repeatable inspection documentation

Single-Probe Holder System
The TS-MCS1-45 is designed with a compact single-probe holder system. The probe holder maintains the probe and wedge position during circumferential movement and supports stable contact during encoded scanning.
Suitable for:
Small-footprint PAUT probes
Compact weld inspection wedges
Single-probe PAUT weld inspection
UT probe and wedge assemblies
Small-bore pipe weld inspection
Tube weld inspection
Custom probe and wedge configurations
Low-Profile Small-Bore Design
The scanner is designed for applications where access is limited and scanner clearance is critical. The low-profile arrangement allows scanning around small pipes, tubes, and restricted weld locations where larger scanners may not be practical.
Recommended for:
Pipe racks
Boiler tube welds
Heat exchanger tube welds
Tube-to-tube weld inspection
Small-bore process piping
Restricted access plant locations
Compact circumferential weld inspection
Quick-Change Link System
The scanner uses an adjustable quick-change link arrangement to fit different small-bore pipe and tube diameters. The link system allows the scanner to wrap around the pipe circumference and maintain controlled scanner movement during inspection.
Benefits:
Fast diameter adjustment
Suitable for multiple pipe sizes
Stable circumferential movement
Useful for small-bore pipe inspection
Suitable for ferrous and non-ferrous pipe materials
Encoder and Position Tracking
