Remote Field Eddy Current Testing (RFET):

The Remote Field Eddy Current Testing (RFET) technique is a specialized NDT method used for inspecting ferromagnetic materials, primarily pipelines, boilers, and heat exchangers. It leverages electromagnetic principles to detect internal and external defects with high sensitivity. RFET is particularly effective for inspecting components with thick walls, where traditional eddy current testing methods may struggle.

Principle The RFET system consists of an exciter coil and receiver coils placed inside the test material.

An alternating current is passed through the exciter coil, creating a magnetic field that induces eddy currents in the material.

Unlike conventional eddy current testing, RFET monitors the "remote field zone," where the electromagnetic field has traveled through the material’s thickness.

The remote field signal bypasses the excitation coil and returns to the receiver coil after interacting with the material and any defects.
